We’re all about doing one thing really well, and that thing is making a single vehicle that’s built to last, designed, engineered, and assembled in the USA, meets the highest safety standards and can be updated, accessorized and transformed at any time. Part of what makes a Slate so radically different is the sheer number of ways you can change it—and change it back: 

• Pickup: every Slate starts out as a 2-seat pickup, aka the blank Slate. From there, you can choose to have it delivered to you as a 5-seat SUV or add any of the following kits, at any time:
• Squareback: seats 5, with classic SUV lines. 
• Fastback: seats 5, with a sportier silhouette.  
• Open Air Kit: seats 5, with no hardtop or windows in the rear for thrilling, wind-in-your-hair driving.  
• Cargo Kit: adds van-like covered cargo storage to the pickup, perfect for fleets or small businesses.

The Slate Truck has a projected range of 205 miles^* and is designed and engineered to get you through most local daily driving needs. Overall, range is about more than just the size of the battery.

We heard our fans loud and clear. People want more range. So we dug in, revamped the battery, and were able to increase the standard range from an estimated 150 to 205 miles, while still keeping the cost under $25,000. We're pretty happy with that improvement and hope our customers are, too.

The cargo bed is 35.1 cubic feet and 5 feet long. That’s large enough to haul:

• Full size sheets of plywood, or sheetrock 
• A 55 in. flat screen TV (in the box) 
• A couple of lawnmowers and a leaf blower

The Slate is rear-wheel drive and projected to have around a 1,550 lb payload and 2,000 lb towing capacity.

It’s true. The Slate uses the tech you already know and love, with easy mounting and charging included for your phone. An accessory bracket fits a large tablet if you want a big screen in your Slate. There’s also a smartly designed holder for a portable Bluetooth speaker. Or, if you want to go all out, you can turn the dash into a sound bar with our accessory speakers. Built-in infotainment systems raise a car’s price, and they become outdated quickly and have high failure rates.

Yes, the Slate comes with heating and air conditioning. We might sweat every detail, but we don’t want you to sweat.  

Speaking of details, the Slate uses simple, analog controls for its HVAC, instead of touchscreens. Here's why that matters.

With a Slate, you use your phone to wirelessly connect to your own portable speakers (like Bluetooth speakers) or accessory audio. If it works with your phone, it works in a Slate. There’s also an accessory steering wheel controller that lets you control the connected devices.

When your phone is your primary controller, you don’t need CarPlay or Android Auto. Just plug in your phone or tablet and start using your favorite apps. Plug in, rock out. It’s that easy.

The Slate is rear-wheel drive with a single, rear-mounted 135 kW motor.

So many ways. With the Slate Maker, you can pick the accessories, colors and features that fit your needs, from little touches like adding a wheel wrap or an interior speaker to bigger modifications like full body wraps, to fully transforming your Slate into an SUV. If you decide you want to add more later, you can always purchase additional accessories over time. This is what makes Slate so versatile. You can change it again and again if you need to, or if you just feel like switching it up.

At the moment, there are nearly four dozen accessories that you can choose from to personalize your Slate, as well as a wide range of color options. Soon, we’ll be releasing even more accessories and colors. We want it to be an ever-expanding, evolving range, so you can always find a new way to make your Slate more fun or more versatile. That’s the beauty of Slate. You don't have to get everything at once when you purchase your Slate. You can add accessories as you go, as your needs change, or if you just feel like a change. If your current build is stretching the budget, try removing a few accessories and coming back to them when you're ready.

You can get your Slate vehicle as an SUV, or change the pickup to an SUV with the purchase of a Conversion Kit after delivery. We offer three different SUV styles: Squareback, which has a square profile, like a classic SUV. The Fastback is sportier looking. The Open Air has no hardtop or windows, for an exhilarating, wind-in-your-hair vibe.

Yes, you can get your Slate delivered however you like it, and switch it up later with a Conversion Kit.

While every Slate starts out Slate Gray, it’s designed to be easily wrapped in your choice of color. We love gray, but it’s about what you like, not what we like.

The Slate is the first vehicle that’s been designed to be wrapped without removing any trim pieces, with coach lines that make wrapping easier for the non-professional. And, with wrap kits starting around $500, and professional installation targeted at under $500, it’s easier on the wallet than traditional wrapping, too.    

There are three options for wrapping your Slate:  

• DIY: we ship you a pre-cut wrap kit with tools and video instructions in our online library of how-tos, Slate U.   
• Order pre-installed: Pick your wrap when you purchase your Slate and have it arrive, wrapped and ready.  
• Professional installation: bring your pre-cut wrap to a professional installer. You'll pay a little more, but your wrap will be top tier.

Our Classic Wraps are available in dozens of colors and are priced just under $500. Professional installation is targeted at under $500, too, so you can get a full color wrap installed for under $1,000.

Our wrap is engineered specifically for Slate's body panels. The adhesive is proprietary, designed to bond correctly with our unique panel material. Standard wraps won't adhere the same way, which means lifting, bubbling, or peeling down the road. We want your Slate to look as good as you imagined it, which is why our wraps start as low as $500 with a targeted professional install cost of $500 or less.

You can choose how and where your accessories get installed:

• DIY: easily install accessories at home with Slate U, our library of video tutorials and helpful how-to content. 
• Before delivery: get select accessories installed at the Slate delivery partner. 
• At a service partner: buy accessories after delivery and get them installed at your local Slate service location.

We don’t. Instead, we offer one standard model that can have as many or as few features as you want. If you want to make it fully loaded, go to town. These items and more can be purchased individually as accessories in our marketplace and can be installed at delivery, at a later date by a Slate service provider, or DIY using our Slate U video tutorials.

We want Slate owners to love and use the vehicle for years to come, so we offer:

Taking care of your Slate is designed to be simple and requires very little maintenance of brakes, tires, cooling fluids, cabin filter and wiper fluids. Slate U, our video library, has how-to videos explaining all of what needs to be done. The upcoming Slate App will keep track of all of your DIY maintenance as well.

We want Slate drivers to have the peace of mind that comes with being able to get your Slate serviced where you live and work.

Through our partnership with RepairPal, Slate drivers will be able to get service at 3,000 Certified repair shops nationwide.

Here's how we're making EV service easy.

In addition to service and repairs, RepairPal Certified shops will be able to handle Slate accessory installation, if you need a little help personalizing your Slate.

You’ll also be able to find service locations on our website soon, and in the Slate App when it launches.

Yes, RepairPal Certified shops will be able to install Slate accessories.

Owning and maintaining an EV can have a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) than a gas-powered vehicle, because owning an EV can mean lower fuel and maintenance costs: 

• EVs require less frequent service because they have fewer components that require maintenance or repair, like filters, belts and hoses that you find in ICE vehicles. Regenerative braking means you use your brakes far less too!   
• EVs run on electricity, which is often less expensive than gasoline.

Slate U is our library of how-tos, quick video references, and video tutorials. Slate U will cover everything from maintenance to personalization and everything in between. The content will be totally free (of course)!  We want to make cars DIY-able again. Personalizing and maintaining your Slate can be fun. If that’s something you want to do, we’ll give you everything you need to know. If you don’t, we’ve got you covered with our service network.

Absolutely. The Slate is designed for DIY. And even if you don't have a ton of experience working on cars, Slate U, our upcoming resource hub, will give you the know-how to get it done.

When you place your order closer to your delivery date, the taxes, title and other governmental fees, along with the destination fee and any other applicable fees will be calculated. Check the available state and local incentives to see how much more affordable your Slate can be.

A reservation is a $50 refundable fee that secures a place in line to preorder with priority timing. As of June 24, the reservation window closed, and the preorder portal opens.

A preorder is a $300 ($250 with an active reservation) non-refundable deposit that locks in your delivery timing and counts toward your purchase of a Slate. This gives you a time slot for production and allows you to plan accordingly. You'll finalize and purchase accessories closer to your delivery date.

Sure, it’s never too early to start personalizing your Slate. But you don’t need to commit to accessories now as those are finalized when you buy or any time after.

Once you get your estimated delivery window, you’ve got 30 days to lock it in with a preorder. If you preorder after 30 days, your delivery date will shift to a later window. If you haven’t been assigned an estimated delivery date yet, you can still preorder and a date will be provided when it becomes available.

Yes, but your deposit is non-refundable and your delivery window would move to a later date.

It’s not refundable, but it will be counted toward the final purchase price of your Slate.

Beginning June 24, you can view your assigned delivery window in your Slate Account. You don't need to preorder in order to see your delivery window.

When you place your preorder, check the “Interested in an earlier delivery window” box and we’ll notify you if an earlier spot opens up.

Yes, we intend to offer financing for chargers and accessories when purchased through Slate at the same time as the vehicle.

Whether you use Slate financing, arrange a loan with another lender, or pay in full, our website will make it easy.

Leasing isn’t currently available, but we hope to offer leasing options in the future.

No, we won’t have traditional dealerships. Instead, we’ve made it easy to buy a Slate directly from us with transparent pricing and simplified online ordering.

Slate has partnered with a national logistics and distribution partner making picking up your Slate friction free in most areas.

For an additional fee, your Slate can be dropped off right at your door.

We’ll be with you every step of the way. Once you place your order, we will send you updates about next steps and the timing of your vehicle delivery.

Nearly anywhere. We’re pleased to announce that Slate customers will have access to Tesla Superchargers, the largest national network of fast chargers, with more than 29,000 individual charging stalls nationwide.

Whether you plug in to a standard wall outlet at your home (really!) or a public fast charger, we’re going to make sure it’s easy to charge your Slate. Every Slate has a charge port on the driver’s side rear—and of course, it’s the North American Charging Standard (NACS).

Do you have a parking space with a household outlet within reach? If you do, simply plug in the included Slate charger, and you’ll be able to add up to 50 miles of range overnight. If you park on the street or don’t have access to an outlet or charger, don’t worry: you can use the Slate App to locate public charging stations, along with details on the expected price, time to charge, and time to reach the station. You can contact a Slate Agent to learn how to get charging installed in your location.

Believe it or not, you can use a regular 120V household outlet to charge your electric vehicle at home. For faster charging, you can plug in to a 240V appliance outlet. The included Standard Charging Cable works with NEMA 14-30, 14-50 and 14-60 outlets. A wall-mounted charger is also a good option for added conveniences like WiFi connectivity and cable storage.

How long it takes depends on the type of outlet or charger you use:  

• Level 1 AC household outlet (this is a standard outlet that you charge your phone with): This charges at a rate of 2-5 miles per hour or 20-50 miles overnight.
• Level 2 AC charger, public or home (this is what your electric clothes dryer plugs into): This will add about 25-35 miles per hour of charge or a full charge in 4-8 hours.  
• Level 3 DC charger: 120kW 20-80% charge will take around 30 minutes

There are lots of tools available to help you locate charging stations along your route, including dedicated EV planning apps like EVgo, PlugShare and ChargePoint, to name a few. You’ll be able to find charging stations using the upcoming Slate App.

Depends on where you’re charging. At-home charging costs pennies on the dollar; you shouldn’t see a significant increase in your electricity bill. The per-kWh cost at public charging stations is set by each station’s owner, and many chargers are free to use. In general, charging an EV has significant savings over refueling a gas-powered vehicle.

Every Slate has a North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging connector.
